6. ಮುನ್ನುಡಿ - Prelude to the sacred Durga Saptha Sathi
In this episode, I present a “Prelude to Power” as I delve into the sacred text of Durga Sapta Shati. I explore its rich themes and set the stage for the divine narratives that follow. Additionally, I highlight the revered Vak, daughter of Maharshi Ambharin, who composed the eight verses of Devi Suktam found in the Rig Veda (10th Mandala, 10th Anuvaka, 125th Sukta). These verses express Vak’s realization of herself as Brahma Shakti, encompassing the eleven Rudras, eight Vasus, twelve Adityas, and all devas. Vak reveals herself as the source, substratum, and support of the entire world. Join me as I introduce the formidable goddess Durga, examining her crucial role in the cosmic battle against evil and uncovering the profound spiritual lessons embedded in this ancient scripture.
7. ಮಧುಕೈಟಭ ವಧೆ - Chapter 1 - Durga Saptashati
In this episode, we delve into Chapter 1 of Durga Saptashati, where King Suratha and businessman Samadhi seek the wisdom of Rishi Sumedha. Suratha symbolizes an able body, represented as a chariot with breath as horses and the mind as the charioteer, reflecting power and control. Samadhi signifies mental focus and concentration, akin to a businessman seeking rewards. Despite their initial successes, both face frustration, demonstrating that even a strong body and focused mind can't guarantee lasting happiness. Rishi Sumedha begins with the story of Madhu and Kaitabha, where Madhu (honey) and Kaitabha (bee) symbolize worldly pursuits and attachments. Vishnu's battle against these demons represents the awakening of sattva guna, initiating self-enquiry and spiritual progress. This story introduces Mahakali, the deity embodying the primordial cosmic energy and force essential for overcoming complacency and beginning serious spiritual practice.
8. ಮಹಿಷಾಸುರ ಸೈನ್ಯ ವಧೆ - Chapter 2 - Durga Saptashati
In this episode, the tale that is deeply personal to me unfolds as we explore Chapter 2 of Durga Saptashati. Living in Mysuru, I am reminded daily of the city’s rich legend, which is intimately connected to the demon Mahishasura. The name Mysuru itself is derived from Mahishasura, and the story of Goddess Chamundi's battle against him is a significant part of the city's heritage. The episode details the fierce confrontation between Goddess Durga and Mahishasura, who could transform into a buffalo. Durga’s divine strength and valor shine as she defeats Mahishasura's forces, symbolizing the triumph of righteousness over evil. This narrative not only celebrates the victory of good but also resonates with the local legend that shapes the cultural identity of Mysuru.

In this episode, I’m recording from the serene and sacred steps of Triveni Sangama, where the Kaveri River flows with renewed vigor, and the rain adds to the divine ambiance. Sitting here, blessed by the power of this sacred site, I delve into Chapter 4, which features the gods, led by Shakra (Indra), offering their profound praises to Goddess Durga.
