1. Heartstopper Forever: A Perfect Ending, Wrong Format
Heartstopper Forever just closed out four years of Nick and Charlie's story, and it left me with a strange contradiction. Emotionally, it hit every beat. But something about the shape of it felt off, and it took some sitting with it to figure out why. In this episode, I break down why a genuinely well-made finale can still feel incomplete, and why I don't think that's a writing problem at all. It's a format problem, created by a decision made long before a single scene was shot. In this episode: Why Heartstopper Forever succeeds as a straight adaptation of Volume 4 How three seasons of TV expanded the world beyond the graphic novels, and why that made the movie's ensemble sidelining feel so noticeable A comparison to The Summer I Turned Pretty's upcoming movie, and why timing changes everything The likely business reasons behind Netflix's choice to end the series as a film instead of a Season 4 My final verdict: a 5 emotionally, a 4 as a piece of filmmaking, and why those two scores aren't in conflict Rating: 4/5 Have thoughts on this one? Let me know where you land, whether the format bothered you too or if the ending worked for you exactly as it was.
