(ON A SERIOUS NOTE. Before I get weird, I need to admit that near the beginning of this episode, I misspoke. I say that PARIS IS BURNING represents the queer African-American community. That's not what I meant. It represents the queer BLACK community. (And Latinx community, of course.) I spoke too fast and was an idiot. The end. I do apologize. I understand this film tackles very sensitive topics, so I want to make sure everything I say is appropriate and never EVER want to offend people.)
So director Jennie Livingston is a freakin' audacious legend because she managed to film a documentary about the queer Black and Latinx community in New York City which debuted in 1990 which is a huge deal because like come on gay representation onscreen was so rare until like the 2000s or 2010s even and this movie is fun and celebratory ...
