The Grammar of the Pirot Speech is special because it forms a truly unique system in which ancient Serbian forms interfere with Balkan influences. When listening to it, it is easily recognizable because it preserves the old way of word accentuation without tonal elongation, as well as characteristic ancient sounds that have long vanished from the standard language. Instead of all cases, it mostly uses a single main word form alongside prepositions, while specific suffixes are added to indicate the exact proximity of things and people.
