The Trap of Avoidance

Avoidance can feel like protection—but over time, it becomes a trap.
In Episode 55 of Guilt to Grace, we look at the ways Christians often avoid discomfort by staying busy, withdrawing, minimizing pain, or putting on a “church face.” We can start to believe that sadness means we lack joy, anxiety means we lack faith, or anger means something is wrong with us. But avoiding hard emotions doesn’t heal us. It often leaves us more anxious, more isolated, and less honest with God and with the people around us.
The way forward is not pretending everything is okay. It’s learning to face what hurts, feel what is real, and trust that God is with us in the middle of it. Isaiah 43 reminds us that God does not always keep us from the waters or the fire—but He promises to walk with us through them. Freedom begins when we stop running from ...
