Summary:

Scarlett learns that both of her sisters and her mother are now ill with typhoid. The day after the Battle of Atlanta, Melanie goes into labor. Scarlett and Prissy are forced to deliver the baby without a doctor as the wounded fall back into Atlanta. Rhett assists with evacuating the household as the army retreats. Rhett kisses Scarlett and professes his love for her, but abandons her to join the army.
