In this episode of Educators With Oil, we dive into the power of self-advocacy, self-discovery, and self-directed growth with Alana Renee’ from the Junior Bright Scholars Institute (JBSI). Through the Concealed Weapons Experience (CWE)—a transformative six-week workshop for grades 6-8—students learn how to be their own advocate, researcher, and hype man/woman. Not every student has a trusted advisor, but through intentional practice and self-reflection, they can develop confidence, communication skills, and resilience. We discuss how CWE provides a safe space for self-discovery, fostering a universal and spiritual connection that empowers youth to navigate their own growth journey.
