False prophets were many in Jeremiah's day. The Lord heard and knew what those false prophets were doing. They were telling lies and in the name of the Lord! Those words of the false prophets did not line up with God's words. That is how to spot a false preacher today. Does what the preacher says agree with the Bible? The Bible is our only measurement to discern between truth and the lies of false teachers. Some false teachers replace the words in the Bible with their own religion or their opinions. Other false teachers change the very words in the Bible and replace God's words with their own words. Both ways depart from the truth and spread false teaching.
