On Friday night, Judge Charlotte Sweeney of the U.S. District Court of Colorado granted a class-wide preliminary injunction in Wisne v. NCAA, ordering the NCAA to declare eligible every Division I athlete who started college in 2022-23 and burned all four seasons by the end of 2025-26. No limitation on sport. Roughly two hours later, Big Ten presidents voted to support the Protect College Sports Act — a bill that standardizes five-year eligibility, bans professional athletes from returning to college, and hands the NCAA the antitrust exemption that would make Friday's lawsuit impossible to file. The court opened a door. Congress may close it next week.
