June was the hottest on record, July topped it as the warmest ever, yet August has taken a surprising turn. As many central North Carolina schools welcomed students back on Monday, the weather felt unusually mild. And heading into Labor Day weekend, cooler-than-normal temperatures are expected to stick around.
