It wouldn't be long until his faith would be tested when he and his wife faced the embarrassing loss of a family business and standing in the community. This was followed shortly by the heart wrenching battles of her struggle with health and eventual death. Left alone as a single dad and widower, bearing the weight of the loss of the love of his life, for the first time Matt turned to alcohol.
