On the Betrayal of Judas (St. John Chrysostom)
Notas del episodio
Today’s Sermon is On the Betrayal of Judas by St. John Chrysostom. Chrysostom served as the Archbishop of Constantinople, capital of the Byzantine empire, 397-404. He died in 407 in exile for confronting the corruption of the empress. He is widely known as one of the the greatest preachers in church history, hence the nickname Chrysostom, which means “golden-mouth”. It was preached on Maundy Thursday, the Thursday of Holy Week, though the year is unknown. Note that for this recording, a paragraph of anti-Jewish rhetoric has been removed. It was translated by Robert G. T. Edwards and published by St. Vladimir’s Seminary Press in the book, Sermons on the Life of Christ.
