The Belvedere Palace tells the story of the prestige of Prince Eugene of Savoy and the rise of a new military elite in the Habsburg Empire. The complex, divided between Upper Belvedere and Lower Belvedere, combines Baroque architecture, scenic gardens, and the representation of power.
The Austrian National Library was established as a court library and demonstrates the direct link between knowledge and political power. Located within the Hofburg complex, it tells the story of how the Habsburgs used books, maps, and manuscripts to govern and represent the empire.
The Albertina Museum began as an aristocratic palace even before it became a public museum. Its history tells the story of the transition from the private culture of the Habsburg elites to a Vienna where art, collecting, and heritage become accessible to the city.
