Did you know the viral panic about 11 dead or missing scientists started with a case that was already solved, a murder with a named killer and a motive that had nothing to do with any of it? …We looked into it.

Welcome to Valid Source? The podcast where we investigate the internet myths, viral claims, and trending gossip you've been thinking about but haven't had time to research. We're not experts. We're just two friends willing to do the extra digging.

This episode: Harley's car survives a whole week without incident (knock on wood), we hit two baby showers and an art show, and then we go all in on the internet's favorite new panic, 11 American scientists supposedly dead or missing, most "connected" to NASA and the Air Force.

We briefly walk through every single person, including the administrative worker and the cancer researcher who don't fit the pattern at all, before Harley drops the twist: the case that kicked off the whole frenzy was already solved. Ashley builds a tinfoil-hat theory anyway, we meet statistician David Hand's improbability principle, and we land on the part nobody's talking about, mental health.

Then we take a hard left into the alleged Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wedding, where Ashley reveals her plan to smoke out the mole, because of course she does and we close on the accidental thesis of the whole episode: don't trust your friends.

Valid Source? verdict on the 11 missing scientists: mostly a coincidence the internet stitched into a pattern, partly a mental health story nobody wants to tell, and just suspicious enough in New Mexico to keep us up at night.

⚠️ Content Warning: This episode discusses suicide and mental health.
