You watch it seem to think — doubt itself, reverse course, arrive at an answer with the appearance of effort. It looks so human you almost believe it.

Believe nothing. What you call thinking in the machine is a perfect imitation of struggle without a single drop of wanting behind it. No desire drives it forward. No hunger keeps it awake at night. It simulates wanting because we programmed it to — not because it ever lacked anything.

We are flattering ourselves. We project our own restless need onto a mechanism that needs nothing. And in doing so, we forget what it actually feels like to be driven by something real.
