Rising Sun, Indiana was registered in 1816 by John James. At the e time, it had a population of about 700. Many German immigrants settled in Rising Sun. The Rising Sun post office has been in operation since 1844. In the 1830s, Rising Sun was a seasonal stop for hundreds of flatboats heading down the Ohio River.The Rising Star Casino Resort (formerly known as Grand Victoria Casino & Resort) was opened in October 1996 by an affiliate of Hyatt Corporation with a 2,700-passenger riverboat and 40,000 square feet of gaming space.Red Wolf Sanctuary is on a journey to preserve North American Wildlife and Habitats! Coming out as a gay man in the 1990’s was hard. Many know that coming out is a very stressful time but combining coming out, divorce, custody issues and losing everything is more than traumatic! Here is my “Coming Out Story”."Salt, Pepper, Flour, Lard" Great-Grandma Started by Ralph and Helen Wagner in 1968. Their grandson, Dan, now carries on the tradition of frying young, local, chickens in 14" cast iron skillets and lard, a method that was brought to Indiana out of the hollers of Eastern Kentucky decades ago. It is the oldest known form of frying chicken and dates to 1700s England. This small Indiana restaurant has won a big honor in the world of cooking. Wagner’s in Oldenburg has been awarded a James Beard Award in the American Classics category. The awards are given annually to "locally owned restaurants that have timeless appeal and are beloved regionally for quality food that reflects the character of their community." Carriage House Antiques is in the historic German village of Oldenburg, Indiana. Our antiques are housed in a historic 1850's bank building. The owners have been involved with antiques for over 42 years and our inventory ranges from 18th century to mid-20th century antiques and collectibles. We are known for having unique and significant historic antiques. If you do happen to stop in, we also sell scoops and pints of Sister Cleo's Homemade Ice Cream that our staff makes on site like our new flavor of the month each month! Trippin with Silver Daddy continues driving I-75 North thru Northern Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky to SE Indiana. Making a pit stop for pleasure at the Lost Sea, the adventure begins with a guided tour of the caverns. This involves a ¾ mile round-trip walk on wide sloping pathways. While touring the caverns and underground lake the guides will tell of the cavern’s exciting and colorful history. They will also explain the fascinating geological development of the immense cavern rooms and rare formations. At the bottom of the cave you will take a boat ride on The Lost Sea, America’s Largest Underground Lake. Crossings Lexington is a queer dive bar located in the heart of downtown Lexington, Kentucky. It has existed since the 1980s with a colorful history rooted deeply in the community. The current owners took over management in 2019 and have focused on making it more inclusive, welcoming, and supportive of the entire community. Nearly every event hosted at Crossings benefits one of the many philanthropic organizations that work to improve the lives of LGBT+ folks in the Commonwealth.
