The Covenants: God’s Plan Unfolding, Part 1

The Covenants: God’s Plan Unfolding | Chapter 7 How do the covenants of the Old Testament fit into the story of redemption? In this episode of Three Questions for Reading the Bible, Pastor Scott Dollar looks at God’s covenant with Noah and His covenant with Abraham. We’ll see how God preserves His creation, makes His promises, and steadily unfolds His plan of redemption. The story of Noah reminds us that the flood did not change the human heart. Humanity still needs a Savior. The covenant with Abraham then moves the story forward as God promises a people, a place, and a blessing—and ultimately points us to the promised Seed, Jesus Christ. Along the way, we’ll ask the three questions that guide this series: Where does this fit in God’s story? How does this function as Law or Gospel? How does this reveal Christ as Prophet, Priest, and King? The covenants are not disconnected stories. They are part of God's unfolding plan, moving us toward the fulfillment of His promises in Christ. God preserves. God promises. God fulfills. Join Pastor Scott Dollar as we continue learning to read the Bible as one unified story—and to see Christ in every page without complicated tools.

Creation, Fall, and Promise

In this episode of Three Questions for Reading the Bible, Pastor Scott Dollar walks through Genesis 1–3 and explores the foundational story of Scripture: Creation, Fall, and Promise. We’ll see humanity’s purpose as God’s image-bearers, the devastating effects of Adam’s sin, and the first promise of the coming Savior in Genesis 3:15. Most importantly, we’ll see how these opening chapters establish the storyline that leads us to Jesus Christ and shape the way we should read the rest of the Bible.

Seeing Christ in All Scripture: Jesus the Prophet, Preist, and King

Seeing Christ in All Scripture: Jesus the Prophet, Priest, and King How does the Bible all fit together? Scripture contains history, poetry, prophecy, law, sacrifices, priests, kings, and countless individual stories. At times, it can feel like we are reading disconnected pieces rather than one unified story. But from Genesis to Revelation, Scripture tells one story—the story of God’s plan to redeem His people through Jesus Christ. In this episode of Seeing Christ in All Scripture, we explore one of the clearest ways the Bible reveals this unified story: the threefold office of Christ as Prophet, Priest, and King. Throughout the Old Testament, prophets spoke God’s Word, priests mediated between God and His people, and kings ruled over God’s covenant people. Yet every prophet, priest, and king ultimately fell short, creating an expectation for Someone greater. That Someone is Jesus Christ. Jesus is the final Prophet, who perfectly reveals God. He is the perfect Priest, who offers Himself as the once-for-all sacrifice for sin. And He is the eternal King, the promised Son of David whose kingdom will never fail. When we understand Christ’s threefold office, we begin to read the Old Testament differently. Moses, David, Solomon, the prophets, the priesthood, the sacrifices, and the kingdom are not isolated stories. They are part of a larger story pointing us to Christ. As Jesus taught after His resurrection, “in all the Scriptures” the things concerning Himself were revealed (Luke 24:27). We need Christ. He is the Prophet we must hear, the Priest we can trust, and the King we must follow.

The Law and the Gospel: Learning to Read Scripture Through the Lens of God's Grace

In this episode of Three Questions for Reading the Bible, Scott Dollar explores the second question for reading Scripture faithfully: How does this passage function? To answer that question, we look at the biblical distinction between Law and Gospel. The Law reveals what God requires—His holiness, righteousness, and our sin and inability to meet His perfect standard. The Gospel reveals what God provides—Jesus Christ, His perfect obedience, His substitutionary death, His resurrection, and the righteousness and forgiveness given to those who trust in Him. Scott explains how understanding Law and Gospel guards us against moralism, legalism, and antinomianism, while helping us see how the whole Bible unfolds the story of God's grace in Christ. We also explore how Law and Gospel work together throughout the story of redemption, how the Mosaic Covenant points us toward Christ, and how Jesus' command to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind exposes our need for a perfect Savior. Most importantly, we see that the Bible is not ultimately a book about what we must accomplish for God, but the story of what God has accomplished for us in Jesus Christ. In this episode, you'll discover: What the Law reveals about God and our sin What the Gospel reveals about God's grace in Christ How to avoid moralism, legalism, and antinomianism How the Old Testament anticipates the Gospel How Jesus fulfills the Law and secures God's promises How Law and Gospel help us read Scripture through the lens of God's grace Next time, we'll take the question one step further: How does all of Scripture point us to Christ as Prophet, Priest, and King? Keep reading the Bible, keep asking the right questions, and keep looking for Christ in all of Scripture.

Where does this passage fit in God’s story? In this episode of Three Questions for Reading the Bible, Scott Dollar explores the first of three questions for reading Scripture faithfully. Discover how the Bible unfolds as one unified story of creation, fall, promise, redemption, and restoration—and how the covenants, promises, people, and patterns of the Old Testament ultimately point us to Jesus Christ.

Why the Bible Feels Disconnected and How to Read it as One Story

Have you ever read the Bible and wondered, “How does all of this fit together?” Scripture can sometimes feel like a collection of disconnected stories, commands, and verses. But the Bible is one unified story of God’s redemption, centered on Jesus Christ. In this episode, Scott Dollar explores how to read Scripture in context, avoid turning biblical stories into simple moral lessons, and see how the entire Bible points us to Christ. We’ll look at why Jesus is the center of Scripture and how creation, fall, promise, redemption, and restoration fit together. The Bible is not a collection of disconnected pieces. It is one story—and Christ is at the center.
