Notas del episodio
In "Career Days," flashbacks reveal that young Randall has been deliberately underperforming in school for years, hiding exceptional math ability so he won't stand out from Kate and Kevin — a quiet self-erasure Jack's insistence on treating all three kids identically inadvertently created. In the present, adult Randall spirals over an identity question raised by William's musical life, then bombs a career-day piano performance before William reframes the whole thing. Kate starts a new job as personal assistant to a wealthy philanthropist, gets drawn into a fraught dynamic with the woman's teenage daughter, and becomes the first person to name her estrangement from Rebecca plainly. Kevin, still unable to reach his grief scenes in rehearsal, is taken to a stranger's memorial by Olivia and breaks open — the first time in the present timeline he speaks directly about losing his father.
The episode works as a structural pairing between past concealment and present disclosure: the same family that conditioned Randall to hide his gifts now watches three siblings name their largest silences in a single day. It clarifies what each Pearson child has been carrying — Randall's tension between the life he built and the one William represents, Kevin's blocked grief beneath his restlessness, and Kate's insight into the Rebecca wound, which she can diagnose in a stranger's daughter but has not yet addressed in herself.
