The first episode, Courage of Despair, will cover the period from 1830 to 1871, in which Algeria was invaded and colonized by the French -- all while managing their own internal secular struggles, as well as Emir Abd al-Qadir's stalwart defense of his people and the Islamic religion in the face of genocide.
