I grew up surrounded by addiction. My mother died an alcoholic. My father spent his life chasing drugs. My brother battled heroin addiction. Everywhere I looked, addiction, dysfunction, and brokenness seemed to be the story of my family.

For years, I believed I was destined to become what I came from.

That mindset led me down a road of alcoholism, cocaine addiction, depression, and ultimately suicidal thoughts. I was convinced the cycle would continue through me just like it had for generations before me.
