Have you ever wondered why Jesus actually had to die?

If God loves us and has the power to forgive us, why couldn’t He simply say, “You’re forgiven”? Why did there have to be a cross?

In Episode 124 of The Hall Hotline, Jon shares an old Christian illustration recently retold by Pastor Josh Howerton about a loving king, a guilty daughter, and a punishment that had to be carried out.

When the king discovers that his own daughter is guilty of the crime, he faces what seems like an impossible choice: justice or mercy.

Instead, the king steps forward and takes her punishment himself.

It’s a powerful picture of what Paul describes in Romans 3:26: God is both “just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.”
