HARD LESSONS WE LEARNED ABOUT MARRIAGE

HARD LESSONS WE LEARNED ABOUT MARRIAGE:] Some lessons about marriage can’t be learned from a book. You learn them by living them. In Episode 40 of The Genesis Podcast, Ken Bishop and I sit down for an honest conversation about some of the hard lessons we’ve learned along the way as husbands. We’re not talking about having perfect marriages or pretending we got everything right. We’re talking about what marriage revealed about us. The wounds we carried. The expectations we never communicated. The things we thought made us good husbands. The survival behaviors that once protected us but eventually created barriers to intimacy. And the difficult realization that sometimes the problem you’re confronting in your marriage didn’t start in your marriage. For me, marriage became a mirror. I didn’t enter marriage empty-handed. I brought my upbringing. My father wound. My need for affirmation. My definition of manhood. The Army. Survival. Trauma. Ambition. And love. Over the years, I had to learn that my wife didn’t create my wounds. Marriage simply put me close enough to another person for some of them to become visible. Ken and I unpack lessons around identity, communication, emotional maturity, vulnerability, expectations, accountability and one of the hardest truths of all: You don’t marry someone’s potential. You marry the person standing in front of you. This conversation isn’t about telling you how to run your marriage. It’s two men looking back at what life, marriage, mistakes, growth and experience have taught us along the way. If you’re married, preparing for marriage or simply trying to become a healthier man before asking someone else to build a life with you, this episode will give you something to think about. The question we leave you with is simple: What has marriage revealed about YOU? THE GENESIS PODCAST Removing inner chaos to create inner clarity to sustain external momentum. Men Usually Learn These 5 Lessons Too Late!

EPISODE 39: NOBODY TOLD US Part 2 of “Five Things I Wish I Knew Sooner” Three men. Three different roads. And a lifetime of lessons we refuse to take to the grave. CY, Ken Bishop, and special guest Billy Grubbs sit down for the kind of conversation men do not have often enough. The kind where experience becomes instruction. Not what we were told manhood was supposed to be. What life actually taught us it requires. In Part 1 of “Five Things I Wish I Knew Sooner,” we opened the conversation about lessons men often learn later than we should. In Episode 39, “Nobody Told Us,” we go deeper into faith, marriage, fatherhood, money, leadership, discipline, failure, growth, and becoming the man the people depending on you actually need. Through the Five Pillars of Mindset U™: Spiritual, Mental, Emotional, Physical, and Financial, we explore some hard earned realizations: Spiritual: I knew how to provide before I understood how to cultivate. Mental: I did not realize my beliefs about manhood were interpreting my relationships for me. Emotional: I did not know survival skills could eventually become relationship liabilities. Physical: I did not understand that the condition of the man affects the condition of everything he leads. Financial: I confused earning money with stewarding money, and provision with presence. Underneath the entire conversation is one question: What did life, marriage, and responsibility expose in me that I once thought was simply part of who I was? Some lessons cost too much to learn alone. Nobody told us. But somebody should have. So we are telling you. 🎙️ The Genesis Podcast: The Renaissance of Manhood Hosted by CY and Ken Bishop Special Guest: Billy Grubbs GO BEYOND THE EPISODE Join the Genesis community on Patreon for exclusive conversations, additional content, and deeper discussions beyond the episode.
