This week on The Darkives, the history of Cheesman Park, from the Indigenous land to the old cemetery that became one of the city's most famous parks. When the graves were ordered removed in the 1890s, the job turned into a gruesome disaster, leaving behind stories of disturbed graves, scattered remains, and a park that some say is still haunted.
Then we head into the mountains to the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, where Freelan Oscar Stanley built a luxury resort after coming to Colorado seeking relief from tuberculosis, only for the hotel to later become famous for its connection to Stephen King and The Shining.
A cemetery beneath one of Denver's favorite parks & a mountain hotel with a reputation for ghosts, this is the strange history behind two of Colorado's most famous haunted places.
Serious history. Told not so seriously.
