God Working: Let Your Yes Be Yes
In Mark 10, James and John angle for the best seats in glory — and Jesus redefines greatness entirely: whoever would be great among you must be your servant. He points to Himself as the model, using the word "ransom" (Greek: lytron) — the price paid to free a slave. Not just teaching. Personal. Then in Matthew 5, Jesus cuts through the first-century habit of oath loopholes — swearing by heaven, by earth, by your own head — and says simply: let what you say be yes or no. A person of real integrity (Hebrew: emet) doesn't need an oath. Their yes is already yes.
God Working: As It Turned Out
The Hebrew word for that happened is miqreh — on the surface it means chance or coincidence. But the ancient rabbis concluded there's no such thing as coincidence for the people of God. What looks random from the outside is divine arrangement from the inside. Boaz tells Ruth she's found refuge under God's kanaf (wings) — the same word later used when Boaz spreads his own garment over her as protection. God's shelter, made visible in an ordinary man on an ordinary morning.
God Working: Can I See You?
This message is about the gap between feeling qualified and being available — and how God isn't looking for the most credentialed person in the room, just the most willing one.
