On November 24, 1971, a man calling himself Dan Cooper hijacked a Portland-to-Seattle flight, collected a ransom, and parachuted into the Pacific Northwest wilderness, never to be seen again. More than fifty years later, it remains the only unsolved act of air piracy in U.S. aviation history — closed by the FBI in 2016, but never actually answered.
