This episode explores the intersection of anger, fear, incompetence, and institutional culture within state psychiatric hospitals. Drawing on experiences in both Washington and New Mexico, the author reflects on how professional training often failed to prepare the author or other professionals on how to best effect treatment with little regard or even belief on how or whether inpatient treatment can anticipate successful outcomes at all.
