Divorce: "IS THE MARRIAGE WORTH SAVING"

DIVORCE: IS THE MARRIAGE WORTH SAVING? | The Men's Lounge LA Welcome back to The Men's Lounge LA, where we are committed to: Empowering Men • Strengthening Families • Transforming Lives Today, Sir Frederick and Coach Chriss tackle one of the most emotional, painful, and misunderstood topics affecting modern families: DIVORCE. This conversation is not about blaming men. It's not about blaming women. It's about understanding why marriages succeed, why marriages fail, and what we can learn to strengthen relationships before they reach the breaking point. In this episode we discuss: ✔ Why people divorce ✔ The rise of Gray Divorce (50+) ✔ Why many men say, "I never saw it coming" ✔ The emotional and financial cost of divorce ✔ Marriage vs. having the right relationship ✔ How men choose relationships ✔ A man's true value beyond money and status ✔ Whether a marriage is actually worth saving DID YOU KNOW? • Research found that approximately 69% of divorces are initiated by women and 31% by men. • More than one-third of divorces today involve adults age 50 and older. • The U.S. recorded over 672,000 divorces in the most recent CDC reporting year. One of the most powerful statements from today's show: "The divorce papers didn't end the marriage. The marriage ended long before the papers arrived. The papers simply announced it." QUESTION FOR THE AUDIENCE: If your spouse sat beside you today, would they describe your relationship as: 🔹 Thriving? 🔹 Surviving? 🔹 Silently Dying? Share your thoughts in the comments below. Choosing Between Being Your Child’s Friend or Their Parent (And Why You’re Paralyzed)

Bonus
“Your child doesn’t need you to be their friend. They have plenty of friends. What they need is a parent who loves them enough to guide them.” – Dr. Shefali Tsabary visit for more: https://detroitbodymindsoul.com/ Here’s a question that keeps so many parents stuck: Should you be strict or should you be cool? You want your kids to talk to you about everything. You want to be the parent they run to, not run from. But you also know they need rules and structure. So you’re frozen. You don’t want to be too strict like your parents were. But you also see other kids running wild with no boundaries, and you think “Not my child.” Let’s be real. Social media has made parenting even more confusing. You see parents online being their teen’s best friend, doing TikTok dances together, and you wonder if that’s what modern parenting should look like. Then you see other parents who are super strict, and their kids seem respectful and successful. Who’s right? Which way is better? Here’s the truth that might surprise you: It’s not either/or. It’s both/and. What Your Child Actually Needs is for you to be their parent first. That means: Setting clear rules about safety, respect, and responsibility Saying no when something isn’t good for them (even when they cry or get angry) Following through with consequences when they break the rules Being the adult even when it’s uncomfortable But your child also needs connection. They need: A parent who listens without judging Someone who laughs with them and enjoys their company A safe place to share their feelings and fears Quality time where you’re fully present The magic happens when you balance both. Here is The Real Problem with Being Your Kid’s Friend. When you try to be your child’s friend instead of their parent, something breaks down. Friends are equals. Parents and children are not equals—and that’s okay. Your child has friends at school. What they don’t have is another adult who will love them enough to set boundaries, even when those boundaries make them temporarily angry. Friendship feels good in the moment. But parenting builds character that lasts a lifetime. Think of it like this: You’re the parent when decisions about safety, values, and character are on the line. You’re the friendly, fun parent when you’re building connection and trust. Bedtime is 9 PM? That’s parent mode. No negotiation. Playing video games together on Saturday morning? That’s connection mode. You’re laughing, bonding, enjoying each other. See the difference? Rules and structure show love. Fun and connection show love too. Your child needs both from you. We should all understand community. We should all know it takes a village. We also should know that kids need adults who care enough to say “No, that’s not happening.” You’re not being mean. You’re being loving. Your Action Step for Today Write down three rules in your house that are non-negotiable. These are your “parent mode” rules about safety, respect, or values. Then write down three ways you’ll connect with your child this week in “friend mode”—playing their favorite game, watching their favorite show together, or taking them for ice cream and just talking. Put both lists on your fridge. This reminds you that you can be firm AND fun. You can set boundaries AND build connection. Your child needs both versions of you. And you can absolutely be both. -Detroit

Should I Stay or Should I Go? Deciding When a Co-Parenting Relationship Is Beyond Repair

Bonus
Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is choose peace over staying in a war zone—even when that war zone is your home.” – Unknown visit for more: https://detroitbodymindsoul.com/ Hey friend, let’s talk about something heavy that’s been sitting on your heart. You’re lying awake at night asking yourself the same question over and over: “Should I stay for the kids, or is leaving actually better for them?” This decision feels impossible because you love your children more than anything. You don’t want to hurt them. You don’t want to be the reason their family breaks apart. But here’s what nobody talks about: staying in a broken relationship might be hurting them more than leaving ever could. Here’s What Staying Teaches Your Kids. When you stay in a relationship filled with anger, silence, or constant fighting, your kids are watching. They’re learning what love looks like. They’re learning how people should treat each other. Do you want them to think love means walking on eggshells? Do you want them to accept being disrespected in their future relationships? Kids are smart. They feel the tension even when you think you’re hiding it. That fake smile at dinner? They see through it. Let’s Look at What Leaving Can Teach Your Kids. Leaving a toxic relationship shows your children something powerful. It teaches them that they deserve respect. It shows them that it’s okay to choose peace over chaos. Two happy homes are better than one miserable house. When you choose your mental health, you’re not being selfish. You’re showing your kids that their well-being matters too. You’re teaching them that sometimes the hardest choice is the right choice. Here’s how to know if it’s time to go: Have you tried everything to fix this? (Counseling, honest conversations, setting boundaries?) Is there abuse—physical, emotional, or verbal? Are you becoming someone you don’t recognize? Do your kids seem anxious or scared at home? Has your partner refused to work on the relationship? If you answered yes to most of these questions, your heart already knows the answer. Keep in Mind, You’re Not Alone in This. There are numerous parents making this same impossible choice. Some stay. Some go. There’s no perfect answer that works for everyone. But here’s what I know for sure: your kids need a healthy parent more than they need an unhappy family staying together. You deserve peace. Your children deserve to see what healthy love looks like—even if that means two separate homes where everyone can finally breathe. Your Action Step for Today Get a notebook. At the top of one page write “Reasons to Stay.” On another page write “Reasons to Go.” But here’s the important part: under each reason, write how it affects your children specifically. Not just you. Not what other people think. Focus on your kids’ well-being. Be honest. This is just for you. Nobody else will see it. This exercise helps you see the truth clearly. Sometimes we need to get our thoughts out of our heads and onto paper to really understand what our hearts already know. You’ve got this, and you’re not walking this path alone. - Detroit
