Brazil: Republica dos Estados Unidos do Brasil 1000 Cruzeiros (1 Cruzeiro Novo) Cruzeiro Novo Overprint Series (1967-1970)

This document presents a comprehensive numismatic and historical analysis of the Brazilian 1 Cruzeiro Novo banknote overprinted on the 1,000 Cruzeiros issue (Pick P-187b), issued by the Banco Central do Brasil in 1967.

Produced during a period of acute macroeconomic turmoil and institutional modernization following the 1964 military coup, the transitionary note reflects the monetary stabilization efforts of the PAEG framework and the redenomination established under Decree-Law No. 1.

Printed by the American Bank Note Company, the note features an obverse intaglio portrait of explorer Pedro Álvares Cabral along with the inaugural Central Bank overprint, while the reverse depicts Victor Meirelles's famous painting Primeira Missa no Brasil. Bearing the signatures of Central Bank President Dênio Chagas Nogueira and Finance Minister Otávio Gouveia de Bulhões
