đ Episode Title: Is God With Us or Not? đ Text: Exodus 16â17 (Focus: 16:1â3; 17:7)
đ Intro:
- Have you ever asked, âWhere is God in all this?â
- Israel didâagain and again.
- In Exodus 16 and 17, just one month after crossing the Red Sea, the people began murmuring⌠again.
- This episode explores their protest, Godâs proving, and His provisionâand how it all relates to trust.
1ď¸âŁ The Protest of Israel (Exodus 16:1â3)
- Whining was Israelâs besetting sin.
- From Pharaohâs palace to the Red Sea⌠to Marah⌠and now the wilderness.
- They remembered Egyptâs food, but forgot the bondage.
- âMurmuringâ is low, sullen complainingâitâs not loud rebellion, but persistent distrust.
- Root issue? They didnât trust God.
- Moses did. Some others did. But the majority grumbled.
đ Application: Do we forget the pain of our past when things get tough today? Do we blame leaders instead of trusting the Lord?
2ď¸âŁ The Proving of God (Exodus 16:4â36)
- God gave manna to test them: âThat I may prove themâŚâ (v. 4)
- This was about faithâdaily dependence:
- Matthew 6:11 â Give us this day our daily bread.
- Some believed. Others failed:
- They gathered more than neededâdisobeyed (v. 20â21)
- Ignored instructions again (v. 22â28)
đ Lessons from the Manna:
- God supplies daily graceânot weekly storage.
- Heâs teaching them (and us) to trust Him moment by moment.
đ¨âđŠâđ§âđŚ Generational Responsibility:
- (v. 32â36) â âOthers need to see what God did for us.â
- Parents must pass down Godâs faithfulness to the next generation.
3ď¸âŁ The Provision of Water (Exodus 17:1â4)
- A new testâno waterâsame reaction: complaint and doubt.
- They forgot what God did at Marah (Exodus 15).
- As Robert Rayburn said: âThere ainât much education in the second kick of a mule.â
- Every difficulty is either a testing ground or a stumbling block.
đ¨ Brake and Rest Stop Illustration:
- Like highway signs say, âGive âEm a BrakeââIsrael needed to slow down and trust instead of attacking Moses.
- They nearly stoned him at Rephidim.
4ď¸âŁ God Provides Water (Exodus 17:5â7)
- Despite the grumbling, God provides from the rock.
- Moses strikes the rock, and water flowsâa picture of grace despite rebellion.
- The place is named Massah and Meribahââtestingâ and âquarreling.â
