I Spent My Childhood Preparing for My Parents to Die

Comedian and University of Texas Professor. Sarah Matthes joins Jon Carden on Tammy's Boy to talk about growing up while both of her parents faced serious illnesses and how spending much of her childhood fearing she could lose them shaped the person she became. Sarah opens up about her father's illness and death, her mother's repeated health battles, childhood anxiety and panic attacks, hiding a secret teenage life from her parents, getting caught shortly before leaving for Yale, and eventually deciding she'd rather let her mother know who she really is than maintain a more acceptable version of herself.
