Welcome to Day 9 of 131 Days of Taboo Talks a special requested topic from someone in the community, asking us to revisit consent through the lens of the “playful” no, and how flirtatious, non-direct communication can sometimes send the wrong signals, creating confusion and risk. We brought the question to the talk (though yes, I forgot to add the poll (we all have our moments), but the conversation still went deep. Despite the timeline reading 2025, the feminine expression of sexuality is still considered a taboo. So for episode 7 of 131 Days of Taboo Talks we explore the reasoning behind why she (or anyone really) can’t just express herself and why society is desperate to put her in a “box”. It gets a bit academic at points, tapping into the gaze theory and how it differentiates between ‘male’ and ‘female’ (another thing we’ve gendered in life). In Day 6 of 131 Days of Taboo Talks, we explore the blurred lines between friendship and emotional intimacy. Touch on how the LGBTQ+ community views cheating, heterosexual relationships have a mismatch in emotional compatibility, and how question how much emotional intimacy we outsource onto our friendships? Here is your Trigger Warning, because this one is a little tender. In episode 5 of 131 Days of Taboo Talks, we are exploring the complexities of disordered eating and how looking skinny is often praised. As thinness makes its return to popularity, it is important we revisit this topic with curiosity and an open mind to understanding how our environments can impact our decisions and the way we view ourselves. Especially through social media where we can easily compare ourselves to others. But in the US alone, 65% of women between the ages of 25 and 45 have reported disordered eating habits. Maybe we should question whether skinny or not is worth the health implications. Join the conversation over on Instagram @tt.suite - where you can DM your questions, thoughts, comments, and concerns.
