Is This Still Good?

por Sage Bilderback and Gavin Murray

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (ft/ Adam Boyer)

Explícito
Journey back with us to a cleaner time in the MCU where Kevin Feige pretended they were doing unique takes on genres. How many days does it take to track down a Condor? Is Frank Grillo underappreciated? Are we excited for Cap 4? All this, plus: War Horse! Keep an eye out for Adam's directorial debut Uphill, crawling across festivals.

We're Back: A Dinosaur Story (ft. Make that song now)

What happens when you take dinosaurs, feed 'em brain boosting cereal, and drop 'em into 90's NYC? Well we're pretty sure you get a special musical crossover episode of Is this Still Good? featuring none other than the hosts of Make that Song Now! This is the also the official start of season 3 (ignore what itunes says), a series where we force each other to watch things we consider gaps in their knowledge, so get ready for an eclectic collection of films in 2025.

2024 Wrapup extravaganza (ft. Benji Carver, Adam Boyer)

Bonus
Explícito

Check out Another Hole in the Head festival and go support Benji over at the Warped Zone patreon, and ask Adam where you can see his directorial debut Uphill!

Bram Stoker's Dracula (Ft Thomas Murray)

It's nearly Christmas, the most vampiric holiday of the year. So before you go watch Nosferatu, check out the last big Dracula epic. Alternately, before you watch Megalopolis, check out the last time Coppola funneled way too much money into a bunch of questionable choices. In this Dracula retrospective, The extended Still Good family looks at the legacy of Dracula (the historical figure, novel, and movies) while getting a lot of historical dates wrong.

Gladiator (Ft. Trevor Tillman)

Explícito
Trevor finally drops by the pod to talk about Gladiators, Director's Cuts, and all things Ridley Scott.

Return to Oz (Ft. AJ Juncker)

Bay area director AJ Juncker stops by to discuss a bizarre 1985 Wizard of Oz spinoff that could be more worth watching than Wicked. How can someone both picture and sound edit a movie? Is Sage secretly an Oz-head? Does Gavin hate fantasy children? Find out on a egg-dropping new Is This Still Good? Check out AJ's latest short "Gorilla Wants Banana" at https://vimeo.com/690352278/ef6b0d85aa

You, The Living (Ft. Dr. Pete Porter)

Robert Zemeckis' Here is, uh, here- a movie told from Told via a single static camera angle. In celebration, Sage grabs his old film history professor Dr. Porter to discuss a similar Swedish film he shows in film school. Join us on our film school bullshit for a look at the philosophy behind Deep focus, why on earth anyone would devote their life to telling stories this way, and how sometimes your house is a train. Plus: the difference between Nordic and American Andersons! Sure, we could have revisited a more obvious, popular movie like Forrest Gump or even Cast away, but its too late now and we didn't. Dr. Porter is a film history professor at Eastern Washington University and a programmer at Spokane International Film Festival (SPIFF)

City of God (Ft. Yvan Iturriaga)

Explícito
Chilean-American Filmmaker Yvan Iturriaga stops by to talk about the difficulty and logistics of filming in South America, why international stories matter, and the literal chemical magic of film. Sage takes you on a tour of a favela and mispronounces a lot of Portuguese names along the way. Gavin is just stoked to be here. Check out the podcast Yvan produces "Friday Night Semites" on youtube and wherever fine pods are casted and check out his webseries that Sage worked on The North Pole about the intersection of climate change and social inequity in North Oakland. It has Rosario Dawson and a Polar Bear. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTL_XyeFtPIaUGN1aR9YD0Q

The Blues Brothers (Ft. Steve Morrow from Saturday Night)

Live, from Los Angeles, it's Saturday Night! Jason Reitman's Saturday Night is out in theaters (depending on your location), which chronicles the tumultuous night leading up to the premiere of Saturday night Live in 1975. Steve Morrow (the sound mixer of the film) sits down with to give us a peak ahead at the film and to look back at the first film to spin out of SNL, 1980's Blues Brothers! Join us on a tour through the history of production sound, ballooning budgets, and why no one can replace John Belushi. They can't stop us, we're on a mission from God. Steve has an incredible and accoladed career in film sound including, Little Miss Sunshine, A star is Born, La La Land, Babylon, and Crank! (We talk more about Crank than you would expect). His films Saturday Night and Joker 2, and Juror are all in theaters.

The Crow: Stairway to Reboot (Ft. Brandon Lee)

The Crow Reboot is finally coming out! Our heroes revisit the Original and try not to get too sad at the legacy of Brandon Lee. Plus, Sage takes us down the Crow Hole! By which we mean he gives a history lesson on the many terrible sequels and aborted reboot attempts between 1994 and 2024. It's a completely unrelated Brandon Lee by the way.
