One of my fondest memories as a kid was participating in the summer reading programs. Outside of numerous attraction tickets and personal pizzas, I connected with stories that still inspire me today. For today's summertime episode, I discuss my love of reading and the authors/genres that shaped my journey. Authors are change agents using imagination and creativity to challenge societal norms and realities we encounter. They also remind us how wonder and joy are important to the work of community building and activism. So YES, books have always been political. Thank GOD I'm Fat

"Nothing I accept about myself can be used against me to diminish me - Audre Lorde" The most radical act a person can do is to fully love themselves in a world that tells them not to. Being Black, fat, and a woman, society tried to convince me, in so many ways, to hate myself. Being transparent, it almost succeeded. My healing journey wouldn't be effective unless I learned to love my Fatness. It defines so much of my identity that accepting it led to my own liberation. Aspects since childhood that once brought me shame or anguish are now sources of my protection, spiritual knowing, and resilience. As the Class of 2026 celebrates its accomplishments, I'm inspired to reflect on my own milestones. For today's episode, I proudly proclaim what I love most about being fat. For the Love of Patriarchy

Pursuing Love should not be a death sentence. However, under patriarchy, this is one of the aspects it guarantees. Love, care, and emotional well-being cannot exist within this oppressive system. Yet, it lies to men and boys, raising them to believe that violence, dominance, and control are the best ways to shape their identities to achieve those things in life. Tragically, women, nonbinary individuals, and children pay the cost, and ironically, men do as well. It's deeper than behavioral patterns, mental health, and any other deterrent used to dismiss this reality. It's time to expose patriarchy for its shapeshifting ways.
