Shalom friends! If you’ve seen #JewishLoreReactions, you may have noticed the character I appear as most often is Death. There’s a reason for that (other than personifications of Death are fascinating and cathartic to play.) In my life, I have been both mourner. But also I’ve served in a #chevrakadisha, a sacred community that comes together at the end of life to care for the deceased and comfort the living. These experiences have given me a profound appreciation for the beauty and power of Jewish end-of-life rituals and traditions, that I don’t think are talked about enough. So let’s talk about ‘em, with Sarit Wishnevski, Executive director of Kavod v'Nichum, an organization that empowers, educates, and trains Chevra Kadisha.
