Radio Mystery Theater The Beach Of Falesa 0131

Original Airdate: August 12, 1974 Episode 0131, “The Beach Of Fallisa” Written by Ian Martin, Directed by Himan Brown, Host: E.G. Marshall A quickie marriage to a local girl results in an island trader becoming an outcast. He must fight a voodoo religion and a business rival to restore his honor and his business and save his family. No storyteller is better loved than the gentle Robert Louis Stevenson, who wrote Treasure Island and A Child's Garden of Verses. But strangely there was another side to Stevenson. He was also the man who could write the blood-curdling history of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. And this tale of violence and voodoo, you're about to hear, called The Beach of Falesa. Copra is the oil from the coconut and is used in the manufacture of soap and margarine. 75 years ago, when Robert Louis Stevenson was alive, young Britishers would mortgage 10 years of their lives in the Pacific Islands to make their pile and come back to England to establish a business of their own. This then is Henry Wiltshire's story, which he can tell better than I. Robert Dryden, Evie Juster, Ian Martin, Alexander Scourby

It can be reached so many ways, down trails of terror, along paths of peril, or, strangely enough, through bustling city streets. There are no markers that tell you when you cross yhe frontier of fear. But once you do, there is no mistaking the horror that lies ahead. One expects to find terror in a haunted house or on the barren, windswept plains of the Aztec pyramids. But it is even more intense when it is encountered on the streets of a modern metropolis. In our little tale, Harry Dorne meets the unfathomable as he crosses the threshold of a pawn shop. But why not let Harry describe his frightening journey in his own words? We never know what the morrow may bring, do we? Indeed, what unexpected turn of fate may change our lives within the next hour? The truth is, we may well see, but ignore, tell-tale signs which warn us of danger ahead, and when the blow falls, wonder how in the world we could have failed to take heed. Marshall Mrs. Mallory inexplicably loses the use of her hands following the death of her husband. After meeting a woman in Central Park who has lost the use of her legs, Mrs. Mallory tries the woman's doctor. The results are surprising. You've come to the right place. Here we present a unique kind of drama. Drama that uses your ears to stimulate your fears. The story you are about to hear concerns another part of the human anatomy. It's a tale about a very frightening pair of hands. Not because they're ugly or mutilated, or because they do evil things. On the contrary. The hands of our heroine do nothing at all, and therein lies her terror. But there's one other subject our story deals with, and it's the most mysterious of all, the human mind. Think of the most beautiful day you can imagine. A day so perfect that the birds are singing its praises. And even the people who line the park benches. Those roosting creatures who seem to exist in a vacuum without emotion seem happy and contented today. But there's one exception, a lady of middle years who sits alone on a bench. Is it her glum expression that has driven away other people? Or perhaps it's the obvious elegance of her mink stole and the glistening perfection of the diamond on her finger. Starring: Celeste Holmes, William Redfield, Evie Juster, Arnold Moss, Leon Janny, Patricia Elliot.

Radio Mystery Theater The Deadliest Favor 0139

Marshall A novelist and his wife take in an old college buddy who's on the lamb from the law. The old "buddy" starts trouble between them almost upon his arrival. May I be your guide once again for that trip through another world, a world of the weird and the unusual? Consider. What we are pleased to call science is based primarily on our observation of cause and effect. So we say the rooster crows to herald the approach of dawn. But what does the rooster think? From his point of view, isn't he justified in believing that the Sun rises because he commands it? In the final analysis, it all becomes a matter of perspective, doesn't it? The poet said, He that dies pays all his debts. And while this may be true, it is neither a practical nor a popular way to discharge one's obligations. And yet, How can we ever hope to pay the vast accumulation of debt that accrues during our lifetime? Oh, this has nothing to do with money. We refer, rather, to the true obligations when we ask, Can anyone live long enough to repay all the favors extended, all the kindnesses shown, all the comforting words spoken by friends and strangers? Rare is that fortunate man or woman whose account is not in arrears. Starring: Norman Rose, Marian Seldes, Ralph Bell, Dan Ocko

His dead mother curses his gun so he can't hit anything, but another agreeable spirit gives him enchanted bullets-but they come with a price. For 75 years, from the late 18th to the middle of the 19th century, was the heyday of the writers of the Gothic story. Here is one of the most popular, which the great composer Von Weber used as the libretto of the opera Der Freischütz. And appropriately enough, it begins in a graveyard. No one in the Duchy of Groussenland would have argued that Catherine Adam daughter of the forester of Linden, was the loveliest bride in West Germany. And that Robert Stock, the hunter, was a lucky man to be getting her for his bride. No one except Catherine and her mother, that is. For Catherine was very much in love with William Breger, a young bailiffs clerk. But kind as her father Bertram Adam was, on the subject of his daughter's marriage, He was inflexible.
