Martini special - Shaken, not stirred

In the first of many Martini specials, we rock up to London's Dukes Bar (@dukesbarlondon) to chat to legendary head bartender Alessandro Palazzi (@alessandro_palazzi) about perhaps one of the most iconic phrases in drinks lore: 'Shaken, not stirred'.

We set Bond's signature drinks order in context of when it first appears, who says it first and when it has played an important role in the plot.

Then, we sit down with Palazzi to discuss his origins in the bar industry, his insights into how cocktails have evolved over his half decade behind the stick, and gives us his personal anecdotes about serving some of the Bond actors.

He then shakes and stirs us some Martinis and we taste what the real difference is between these two ways of preparing 007s favourite cocktail.

125ml Potoki vodka

Sacred English dry vermouth

Rinse a frozen Martini glass with a few drops of vermouth and pour your vodka straight from the freezer. Express and garnish with Amalfi lemon peel.
