Read Ephesians 1:3-14; Deuteronomy 7:6-9
Chosen
Over the next few days, we’re going to pause in Ephesians 1, dwelling on some of the amazing blessings that come our way because of God’s wholehearted love for us.
Today, our focus is on being chosen.
I love to be chosen. I love it when I’m selected for a team. My skills are recognised. My worth has been identified. I’m valued… I’m good enough.
If you are a Christian, then God chose you. He’s not stuck with you. He made a choice. God chose you!
Why did God choose you? The Deuteronomy passage reminds us (thankfully) that you were chosen not because of your personality, or looks, or income. He chose you because he did. He chose you before the creation of the world - before you even existed, before you got your chance to shine… or fail. God chose you.
It’s a reminder of the grace of God - chosen not because you are better, more worthy, more able to serve him, more skilled, or powerful. But chosen in love.
And God choosing us in love is so much more wonderful and permanent. Our looks will fade, our income will reduce, even our personality will change - but God’s love for us will remain.
Why did God choose you? He chose us to transform us. To be holy and blameless. Holy: distinct, special. Blameless: without wrinkle or spot or blemish. Even though you are full of faults, God sees you as blameless
Spend some time in worship of God now: you have been chosen, made holy and blameless.
Confess the times when you have forgotten your immense value or found value in the things of this world.
Ask God that today you would experience the wonder and joy at being chosen in Christ.
Take time throughout the day meditating on and treasuring these words: ‘chosen in Him.’
Prayer:
Loving Father, please use this season to make us as wholehearted for you as you are for us. And so I pray whatever it takes, Lord, help me to know the joy that comes from being chosen by you. Let me find my worth in the fact that you have chosen me in love and let me rest securely in the fact that nothing in this life can change that truth. Amen.
