Stop, Breathe, Think
Be still. It is so much easier said than done. Can you count how many times you’ve tried to tell your child to sit still, calm down, or stop fidgeting or moving so much? I am learning that the movement of our bodies and our children’s bodies tells us a lot about the feelings and emotions going on inside. For these uncertain moments when all you want to do is scream “BE STILL,” you are going to replace this moment with these three words: Stop. Breathe. Think.
Go ahead and stop for a moment, take a few deep slow breaths, and open your heart to what God’s Word has to say. Breathe in. Breathe out. Repeat as many times as you need. Relax your shoulders. Let go of the tension in your jaw. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth until you feel a sense of calm.
Now shift your focus to the Word of God. As you read these words continue slow, deep, quiet and regular breaths.
Psalm 46: 10-11 says,
“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah”
God truly is with you and your child who struggles. As you go throughout your day today, consider these three words: Stop. Breathe. Think. As you practice implementing this simple routine, coupled with the truth of Scripture, let your body, mind, and soul feel the peace God offers.
Prayer for today:
Dear God, I want to slow down enough to stop, breathe, and think before I rush into the next moment. Help me to focus and allow myself to experience the peace you give me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
