Pardon My Poem With Jeri Theriault

It's my enormous pleasure to have spoken to Maine poet Jeri Theriault about her most recent collection of poems, Self-Portrait as Homestead. We talk about the poems and their process, hard truths in writing, and how to put the reader in the middle of the experience of the poem. We also get a taste of her stunning work. Enjoy this episode with an artist and poet who has mastered her craft.

Pardon My Poem With Sasha Goodwin

I simply loved talking to Maine poet Sasha Goodwin on this episode of the pod! Her book "Centipede" won the 2023 Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance chapbook contest and it's wonderful. I've read it several times, and I will without a doubt read it several more. Join our chat and get the low down on her book, her years living in Seattle, and why she occasionally feels like a weird middle-aged goth.

Pardon My Poem with Poet Molly Fuller

Pardon My Poem hits its stride (maybe?) with this delightful episode featuring Ohio poet Molly Fuller. Molly is my friend, and her work continually surprises me, inspires me, and unsettles me in the best of ways. Join the convo about Molly's book Always A Body, a stunning addition to her corpus. C'mon along!

Pardon My Poem Debut! with Dennis Camire

Pardon My Poem debuts with the incomparable Maine poet Dennis Camire. Dennis talks about his latest collection Anthology of Awe and Wonder currently available from Deerbrook Editions. He reveals the origins of this stunning collection and reads a couple of poems, too. Dennis was a huge get for the season's first episode - I couldn't be more grateful for this generous and revealing discussion. Enjoy!

Pardon My...Poetry!? An Interregnum with Coming Events

In this short update, Michelle talks to audio producer David Brewbaker about a pivot for the pod, and Michelle considers an emotional support pillow with Cécile's face on it to fill the void during her temporary absence.

Temporada 1

Cleo from 5 to 7: The Lush Nostalgia of Agnès Varda's 1962 French New Wave Drama

Bienvenue! On this episode of the pod, Cécile and Michelle go deep, engaging in semiotic and narrative analyses as they dissect the intricacies of mise-en-scène in Agnès Varda's essential 1962 film. JK! We just chat it up. Join us in this freewheeling discussion of French New Wave Cinema, the startling beauty of Corinne Marchand, questionable undergarments, and the impact of Seasonal Affective Disorder. We're too good for men!

A Serene Experience: Cécile Returns (from Japan!)

Michelle's lost limb is back from Japan. Cécile shares her adventures, the girls play with letting AI do the pod, and we review our Barbenheimer experiences. Kon'nichiwa!

SUMMER MOVIE CONFAB: Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles

Jeanne Dielman was voted the greatest film of all time by the British Film Institute last year and Cécile and Michelle set out to discover whether this 3:40 long movie is revelatory or simply tedium. Spoiler alert - we loved it.

MOVIE CONFAB: Michael Haneke’s Happy End

This week: We love Haneke! Leaps and lacunae! Did the daughter kill the mother? Should John Williams score this movie? We place our bets in this provocative talk where Cécile and Michelle metaphorically poop back and forth forever discussing this fascinating film by one of our favorite directors.

Rilke Appreciates a Strong Core: Archaic Torso of Apollo

In this episode, Michelle and Cécile discuss the poem "Archaic Torso of Apollo" by Rainer Maria Rilke, focusing on its multiple translations and its stunning end. We have a pleogasm, we talk about being a poet and encountering poems in the world, and Cécile parses out the German. We find it all very interesting and intriguing and, hey, we say so.
