This episode addresses the myths Christians often hear—like “if you loved God more, this wouldn’t happen”—and offers a biblical, compassionate, and practical approach to mental health. If you leave science out, it doesn’t work either.” Shame, Denial, and Harmful Responses “Telling someone they just don’t love God enough creates shame, not healing.” “Mental health issues, untreated, act like an infection—they don’t heal by being ignored.” “Gaslighting someone’s pain doesn’t make it disappear.” “Adding shame to anxiety or depression only undermines help.” Acceptance and Moving Forward “The first step isn’t fixing it—it’s believing it exists.” “You can’t move forward if you pretend you don’t have a problem.” “Accepting your struggle doesn’t mean surrendering your future.” “Learning to rest is not optional—it’s necessary.” Identity in Christ “Your struggle is not your identity.” “I am a person who struggles with depression; I am not depression.” “Who God says you are is more true than what anxiety tells you.” “These struggles are part of my journey, but they are not the end of my journey.” Purpose and Compassion “We’re comforted so we can comfort others.” “What I struggled with gave me compassion I didn’t have before.” “Mental health is a mission field.”
