Ep#3 Owen Davey - On researching animals, setting boundaries and snorkeling in the Bahamas

In today's episode, I talk to illustrator extraordinaire Owen Davey. Owen and I really got along and we ended up going on a lot of fun tangents - chatting about everything from freelance life, his way of working, his colour palettes as well as the time he got to go to the Bahamas after creating a poster for his client Beneath the Waves. We also talked about the work he's doing through his Portfolio reviews to try and make the industry more diverse and inclusive as well as his tips for a good work/life balance (hint: setting boundaries). Owen was so generous and open, he shared a lot of nuggets of wisdom in our conversation... Enjoy! You can follow him on social media https://www.instagram.com/owendaveydraws/and see more of her work on his website https://www.owendavey.com/ Make sure to keep an eye for his Portfolio Reviews - also on his Instagram or reach out to him directly via email To learn more about Mimi visit https://mimiforcreatives.com/ and join us on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/mimi.for.creatives/We have cool workshops and masterclasses coming up so check them out too! Ep#2 Marilyne Blais - On zoom cups for zoom, refining her process and growing her ceramic studio

In today's episode, I get to chat with the awesome ceramicist Maryline Blais. If you haven’t seen Maryline’s jug mugs and zoom cups yet, then you’re missing out. I’ve been a fan of her for years now as anyone could tell from my collection of colourful mugs and objets from her. In our conversation, we talk about how it felt growing up in Quebec in a small town being the creative one in a family of hockey players. We also chat a lot about her moving to Berlin and growing her brand and craft, perfecting her process and skills and selling out her stuff within minutes online (hint: it’s both very exciting and daunting at the same time!). I loved getting to hear more about Maryline’s personal life and what she’s up to when she isn’t throwing amazing jug mugs. Enjoy! Ep#1 Clémence Gouy - On amplifying other people's voices, illustration and rollerskating

In today’s episode, I chat with Clemence Gouy. Clemence is an illustrator originally from France, who now lives in Amsterdam. Her work is bold, powerful and thought-provoking. In our conversation, we talk about her growing up in Brittany, living on a sailboat for a while with her family and how inspiring it was to have her mum also be a graphic designer and illustrator. We also talked about her creative journey to where she is now, from where she studied to the multiple internships she did around the world before starting her freelance career in the Netherlands. Ask Mel & Maddy #11 - On freelancing full time, picking colour palettes, the least and the most money we've made from licensing and more

Welcome to Ask Mel & Maddy with illustrators Melanie Johnsson and Maddy Vian About: We are both passionate about the creative industry and illustration in particular. We feel like sometimes being an illustrator means being lonely and not necessarily know where to turn for help or advice. We’ve both been working as illustrators for a while now and although we’re always keen to answer art questions online, we thought it would be super fun to create a space where you can ask questions to us about anything related to art, design and illustration! We also both love podcasts and we know there is something magical about listening to other people talk about the things we love (a.k.a art) so we hope you love this as much as we will! How does it work? How can you ask questions? You can ask questions via Instagram - either directly via DM at @melanie.johnsson or @maddyology or when each of us puts a little questions box in our stories! What can you ask about? You can ask about anything that’s on your mind when it comes to freelance life, the business of illustration, art practice and more. We aim to be open books and will share all our secrets!
