In this episode of the LusoCanada Podcast, we speak with Cristiano Matos, president of Rancho Folclórico As Tricanas. Founded in Toronto in 1980 and now based in Hamilton, As Tricanas preserves the traditions of the Beira Litoral region, including Aveiro, Coimbra, and northern Leiria.

Cristiano shares the history of the group, its family roots, its renewal after the pandemic, the move from Toronto to Hamilton, the meaning of costumes such as the tricana and the marnoto, and the importance of teaching Portuguese folklore to younger generations.

This is a conversation about culture, family, regional pride, and the work required to keep Portuguese traditions alive in Canada.
