The letter from Simon Peter to believers. It begins by emphasizing the importance of developing Christian virtues like goodness, knowledge, and love to ensure spiritual effectiveness and a secure place in God's kingdom. Peter asserts the truthfulness of his teachings, stating they are not fabricated stories but derive from his eyewitness accounts of Christ's majesty and the divine inspiration of prophecy. The letter then warns against false prophets and teachers, describing their deceptive practices, immoral behavior, and impending destruction, drawing parallels to historical examples of divine judgment. Finally, it addresses scoffers who doubt the Lord's return, reaffirming the certainty of Christ's coming and the future judgment by fire, urging believers to live holy lives and grow in grace while awaiting the new heavens and new earth.
