Book of Jeremiah focuses on the prophetic messages delivered by Jeremiah concerning the kingdoms of Judah and Israel. It details God's call to Jeremiah despite his initial reluctance, appointing him to speak against the nations. The core theme revolves around Judah and Israel's pervasive wickedness, including forsaking God for idolatry, which leads to divine judgment and impending disaster from the north, primarily through the Babylonians. Despite warnings and calls for repentance, the people and their leaders largely disregard the prophetic words, resulting in siege, destruction, and exile, though there is also a promise of future restoration and renewed covenant. The text also includes Jeremiah's personal struggles and persecution as he delivers these unwelcome prophecies.
