Welcome to I AM Conversations—a transformative series designed to inspire self-discovery and ignite your creative spirit, hosted by Ana María Dávalos, Maria Lanas, and Maclovia Martel.
Our guest is Edina Seleskovic—a Bosnian-born, New York-honed artist whose work bridges continents, disciplines, and communities. Edina recounts:
- Leaving Yugoslavia as a teen exchange student and learning she couldn’t return home when war erupted
- Choosing art as a lifeline at the Corcoran School of Art
- Moving from D.C. to New York, designing for runways and indie films, then evolving into large-scale public work
- How a banned postage stamp led to Think Freedom—a traveling, youth-co-created sculpture installation (with AR) now experienced by an estimated 3.4 million people
- Bringing culture across borders—from Sarajevo to Banja Luka and Novi Sad, to Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza in NYC and Dayton, Ohio for the 30th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Accords
- Building Planet Sarajevo (Planet S)—a permanent, tech-rich interpretation center celebrating Sarajevo’s cultural boom and Olympic legacy
- Practical tools for moving through crisis, finding purpose, and becoming “a little better than yesterday”
