God Wants to Fight for You | Greentree Together Weekly Devotional Most of Judah’s kings were a mess. Jehoshaphat was different. He led people back to God — and he was still afraid. In this Greentree Together devotion, Justin Cook reads 2 Chronicles 20, where three armies come against Judah. Jehoshaphat is terrified. Then he gathers the people to seek the Lord. Four ways to let God fight for you: 1. Ask for help. 2. Pursue God’s interests, not your own. 3. Realize the battle is not yours. 4. Admit your limits and let God’s strength work through you. “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” (2 Chronicles 20:12) God won that battle. Judah never had to lift a sword. You Don’t Notice Until a Week Later | Greentree Together Weekly Devotional Cut branches can look alive for days. Then the leaves change. In this Greentree Together devotion, Ben Harris uses a pile of trimmed trees in his yard to open John 15:1–6. Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches.” A branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine. Neither can we. The warning is slow, not sudden. When we stop remaining in Christ, the fruit of the Spirit — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness — does not vanish in a day. It thins. Then we look up a week later and ask what happened. This episode is a checkpoint: Are you connected? If you have been in a dry season, there is still grace. The vine is still there. You can be grafted back in. Jonah Didn’t Want Them Saved

Jonah Didn’t Want Them Saved This week Brenden Pristach shares from the book of Jonah as he wraps up about four months of teaching Sunday school. The spark was simple: his son Lincoln, watching Jonah in the van, asked, “Did dude just really get swallowed by a big fish?” Yes, Jonah was swallowed by a great fish. But Brenden walks through the whole story to show what the book is actually doing. God calls Jonah to Nineveh. Jonah runs the other way, goes down into a storm, and is retrieved by the fish God sent. When he finally goes, he preaches the shortest sermon in the Bible: “In 40 days, Nineveh will be overturned.” There is no altar call. Still, the city repents — people, king, even the animals. Jonah is furious. He wanted judgment, not mercy. He knew God’s character and did not want that compassion extended to his enemies. The book ends with God’s question: Jonah cared about a plant he did not grow. Should God not care about a great city? Brenden’s challenge is to wrestle with Jonah ourselves. We love God’s mercy when it is for us. The harder question is whether we will be shaped by that same mercy toward the people we do not want to love. Jonah is a short read — about a page and a half. Worth opening this week.

God Keeps His Promises

God Keeps His Promises This week Chris Foster shares a back-to-school reminder from his own college days. Every fall he promised himself that this would be the semester he stayed ahead of his work. He never kept that promise. That story becomes a picture of why we need Jesus. We make commitments we cannot keep. God does not. From 2 Corinthians 1, Paul points to this truth: “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ.” Chris encourages us that God is not like us — and thank God for that. He keeps His word. And the promises He has made through Jesus — the Holy Spirit, forgiveness, salvation, eternal life, His presence with us, and the strength to fight temptation — are promises we can trust as a new season begins.

Lessons from a Cicada

Lessons from a Cicada This week Justin Cook shares a simple but meaningful devotion sparked by an unexpected visitor — a cicada that flew into his truck window while he was driving home from a run. Looking at the short and unusual life of the cicada, Justin draws out three lessons from God’s creation: Life is short Adult cicadas only live a few weeks. Psalm 39 reminds us that our lives are brief and fleeting. We are not promised tomorrow, so we are called to make the most of the days we are given. Adulthood requires preparation Cicadas spend years underground preparing for their short adult life. In the same way, parents have the important responsibility of preparing their children’s hearts, minds, and character for the future. Our songs will mark us Cicadas are known by their loud, constant song. Scripture calls believers to be marked by songs of joy and gratitude (Psalm 5 and Colossians 3:16). A heart that is glad in God should overflow in praise. Justin closes with a challenge: When was the last time you paused long enough in God’s creation to let Him teach you something? As St. Augustine once wrote, “Some people, in order to discover God, read books. But there is a great book — the very appearance of created things.”
