What is the Church according to the Bible—and does our experience of church match the picture Scripture gives us?

Many Christians use the word church to describe a building, a Sunday service, an organization, or a collection of programs. Those things can serve the Church, but none of them fully defines what the Church is.

The New Testament describes the Church as the people of Christ living under the lordship of Christ. Believers are a spiritual family devoted to biblical teaching, fellowship, prayer, shared life, mutual care, and discipleship. We are living stones being built together with Christ as the cornerstone.
