The Seltzer Salon #6: Zeena Parkins
Sometimes an interview or an artist doesn't really need an introduction. Zeena Parkins is one of those artists. For decades, she has been exploring new aural terrain and creating her own unique frameworks for composition and improvisation. The scope of her work is vast, and its impact deeply felt. Last month, Chaikin Records released a boxed set of her incredible LACE project. Using something so familiar, Parkins recontextualized this fabric as a graphic score, creating a sonic code where pre-conceived ideas get turned on their head and possibilities emerge in endless threads. “LACE” is available now from Chaikin Records. https://zeenaparkinsprojects.bandcamp.com/album/lace The Seltzer Salon is a concise, conversational podcast hosted by Brad Rose and produced by Foxy Digitalis. Each episode features a musician, artist, writer, or anyone, really, focusing on a single project or idea. I know we all have limited time each day, so I wanted to do something a little smaller scale with just as much impact, so episodes will be 25-45 minutes in length. Brad Rose is the the principal writer and editor-in-chief of Foxy Digitalis, an online music magazine and has run various DIY record labels for the last 30 years. The Seltzer Salon #5: M. Sage
M. Sage is one of the most generous and thoughtful artists. His new album, “Paradise Crick,” finds joy in sonic reverie, and getting lost in that world makes things feel a little brighter. This conversation about the album felt so good. After a rough morning, talking to Sage about whimsy, pleasure, and so much more, I felt so much better and refreshed. He and his work have that kind of effect on people. “Paradise Crick” is out now on RVNG Intl. https://msage.bandcamp.com/album/paradise-crick https://foxydigitalis.zone/2023/06/09/foxy-digitalis-daily-6-9-23-m-sage/ The Seltzer Salon is a concise, conversational podcast hosted by Brad Rose and produced by Foxy Digitalis.
