Many More Words EP135

From the transcript... This is just one of Baxter Kruger's books. He has several, and they're all good. Yeah. Well, I've read that book. I highly recommend it. There's also YouTube teachings. I think it's a four-part series that Baxter does on The Undoing of Adam. I've mentioned this before, but I'll say it again. In my memory, which could be fuzzy, I think it was video three, but I may be wrong. But it's in one of those videos that Baxter made some comment to the effect that this is how I retell it. This is not how he said it. When we're preaching a penal substitutionary gospel, which is what I was raised on, “If God would do that to His Son, what would He do to me?” And that behind that gospel is this questioning in our heart: “Can He be trusted if this is how He is?”

Free To Live EP 134

From the transcript... I wouldn't argue with that. It's dense, for sure. Baxter Kruger, Jesus and the Undoing of Adam. I want to read just a little quote: “Behind creation, figuring as the driving force of all divine activity, as the one thought at the forefront of the divine mind and the preoccupation of the heart of God, was the decision to give human beings a place in the circle of the Trinity.” That's good. That's the point, and that's probably where I picked it up, ain't gonna lie. I've been reading him so long, it's absorbed in me, not realizing it. But God was happy within Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, enjoying that dance with one another, loving one another, preferring one another, other-centered, self-giving love. But they were enjoying one another so much, they wanted to share themselves with another. And that's when God said, “Let us create man in our own image.” This is just one of Baxter Kruger's books. When we're preaching a penal substitutionary gospel, which is what I was raised on, “If God would do that to His Son, what would He do to me?” And that behind that gospel is this questioning in our heart: “Can He be trusted if this is how He is?” And however he said that, and I probably ought to go back and listen to it again. Kind of like I ought to read that book again, listen to those videos again. But that was a huge point of, in my mind, of yes, this is why. Because I had come to a place of frustration as a pastor of why people didn't love the Lord like I tried to love the Lord. Why they didn't trust Him like I was trying to trust Him. I had noticed there's this gap. And then when he said that, I'm like, “Oh, that's what's wrong with the gospel I'm preaching.” And that's when I began to see it and consciously shift away from that into a better understanding of what Jesus has accomplished. Who God is.

Seeing Salvation Differently EP133

From the transcript... So, what's your understanding of salvation? Maybe take two minutes and articulate what it used to be. Then we can talk the rest of the day about what it is. Yeah, well, I used to have a very, I call it, very narrow view of salvation. And if I try to summarize it, it was: everyone's born a sinner, condemned to hell, eternal conscious torment. That if at some point in your earthly life, you did not repent of your sins and believe in Jesus as your Savior, you would spend an eternity in hell of eternal conscious torment. Like a bar. Like a, yeah. Eternal. It was that. You were under the judgment of God already. And being saved was belief. I still got two minutes. I'm just kidding. And then being saved, you know, you believed in Jesus. He saved you from that hell. And then you get to live with him in heaven forever. It wasn't just saying a prayer, though.

Jesus Changes Everything EP128

From the transcript... Jesus standing there in the flesh on the shores of Galilee. That was the Father's eternal Son anointed in the Holy Spirit. The creator, sustainer of all that is. And I want to give credit. I learned this from Baxter Kruger. But the reality is that is who's standing there, who's being baptized of John, and he's holding the stars, he's causing the planets to spin on their axis, yeah, in the galaxy and all the stars, and he's holding it all together. Jesus in the flesh. He's the one hanging on the cross saying, "Father, forgive me." Yeah. He's the one that died. And he has been raised. We were raised with him in the whole cosmos. And it's all new. Yes. That's the message. That is the message. Yeah. We were also talking about Hebrews 1. About... Hadn't he purged our sins? Yeah. Well, the final revelation, he's spoken to us by the Son. Yes, yes. And he has purged our sins and sat down. That being that final revelation, the full revelation of God. I'm going to give another shameless plug to this book, Getting to Know Papa, a 31-day journey into the heart of our Father. I do recommend it. On day eight, the title of everything has changed. James picks up this scripture out of Hebrews chapter 1, verses 1 through 3. This is the New Living Translation. I love that translation too. Yeah. Long ago, God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, He has spoken to us through His Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance. And through the Son, He created the universe. The Son radiates God's own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.

Knowing New Thoughts EP127

From the transcript... What did you want to say about Romans 1 to 11? That I read it. Yeah, but as he talks about how that we die. We've been created anew. I'll tell you what. We live with him. We're joined now. "Likewise, you also reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord." You take that scripture. I'm just giving you what the Holy Spirit ministered to me on this morning. Go to 2 Corinthians 5, verse 15. It says, "And He died for all." That's why we come out over here in Romans 6:11, right? "Reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God." "And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again." Therefore, it's what you were talking about earlier. We know no man, no one, according to the flesh. Just the reality of what God has accomplished in Christ. New life to the cosmos. We've been transferred, translated, from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light. It is the reality of the world that is. Mind, your life is in this world. I know this doesn't have anything to do with... well, it does, kind of. But another thought that came to mind was in John 1, where it says, "In Him was life."

Living Now As Then EP126

From the transcript... But sometimes... He's interacting with other people. I might be, quote, offended, but I've learned not to take offense. Yeah. In other words, it might be a half a second or two seconds, you know, and I get rid of that. That's not who I am. That's what I say. Well, you make me think about things I really didn't want to think deeply about, James. In a sense that... I think anyone can get their feelings hurt, whether it's intentional or unintentional. And that's one thing. It's another to get offended or to... harp on it and hang out with it. Well, yeah, that. Or to feel disrespected, devalued, or unimportant by a comment somebody makes.
