New deck, now what

You have your first tarot deck, congratulations! Now what? How do you get to know your tarot deck? Do you need to cleanse it? Do you need to memorize all the cards before you get started? What is intuitive reading? I answer all these questions and more in this episode. Today I pulled a card from The Sasuraibito Tarot deck by Stasia Burrington. Check out an image of the card I pulled on this episode at my website. Go to this link to check out my Let’s Talk Tarot Meetup group if you’re local and looking for ways to get to know your new tarot deck and meet tarot friends.

Tarot Myths

Today I'm talking about Tarot Myths. I'm sure you've heard them before but let's take apart some of these myths and break down the gatekeeping of it all. I believe anyone and everyone can read tarot and you get to do it how you want to. I share my own personal beliefs around tarot and encourage you to find what works for you. Today I pulled a card from the Therapists Who Tarot Deck, Prompts by Dreya Blume and Images by Rebecca Bloom. Go to my website to check out the episode notes and an image of the card I pulled today.

Oracle vs Tarot Cards

Today I’ll be talking about the differences between Tarot and Oracle cards. We'll get into the history of Tarot and the accessibility of Oracle cards. We'll compare and contrast them and maybe you'll get a better understanding of each. Enjoy! The Tarot deck I used today is the Anima Mundi Tarot Deck by Megan Wyreweden which you can find here, https://www.thecreepingmoon.co/tarot.html . The Oracle Deck I used today is the Wild Kuan Yin Oracle: The Velvet Goddess Edition by Alana Fairchild which can be found here, https://www.alanafairchild.com/oracle-deck/wild-kuan-yin-oracle-the-velvet-goddess-edition/ . First Deck Story

Settle in for the story of how I found my first Tarot Deck… or perhaps more accurately how my first deck found me. My first deck was the Sasuraibito Tarot deck by Stasia Burrington. It is formatted like a traditional Rider-Waite Smith deck but has a bit of a goth, Pacific Northwest vibe to it. The artist actually has a lovely website where they go through their general idea for the deck, the themes, and a description of each card they created and who they imagined in each image. Today I pulled The Star Reversed from The Sasuraibito Tarot deck, you can check out the image here.

Tarot and Deer

Welcome to Season 12 of Every Day Tarot! This season, we’re exploring the sacred bond between the tarot and our animal allies. In this episode, we talk about the deer—creatures of wild grace, gentleness, and instinct. They symbolize gentleness in motion, teaching us how to move through life with presence, vulnerability, and strength. Let’s dig into their lore, their tarot appearances, and the lessons they bring when they show up in your life (or your deck!) What we explore in this episode: Deer symbolisms in myth and magic How deer energy relates to certain tarot archetypes The message of the deer: move through life with presence, vulnerability, and strength Deer Symbolism in Myth & Magic Known across cultures as a symbol of intuition, alertness, and spiritual guidance, the deer invites us to walk softly yet surely through the liminal spaces of life. Their delicate strength and quiet presence make them symbols of: Gentleness & non-violence Instinct & attunement Fertility & renewal Protection & vigilance Sacred feminine energy In many traditions, the deer represents the soul’s longing for connection with the divine. From Celtic myths of the white stag leading seekers into the fae realm, to the Buddhist tale of the compassionate Deer King, this animal appears where tenderness and spiritual growth are needed. We also touch on: Elk - Alertness, community, and confident communication Moose - Independence, strength, and grounded presence Each brings a unique thread to the broader message of adaptability, respect, and resilience. Tarot Cards Featuring Deer Energy: While deer do not appear often in traditional tarot decks, their energy is deeply embedded in several archetypes: Queen of Pentacles (Anima Mundi Tarot) A nurturing, grounded white-tailed deer symbolizes caregiving, homemaking, and emotional stability. The Hierophant (Anima Mundi Tarot) Represented by an elk, this card reflects tradition, collective learning, and the wisdom of elders. It mirrors the communal nature of elk herds. Six of Cups (Sasuraibito Tarot) While not always depicted with deer, this card captures the innocence, curiosity, and playfulness often associated with deer spirit. Deer Spirit (Spirit Animal Oracle) “Bring a gentle touch” reminds us to communicate with calm clarity and empathy. If you haven't listened to my other seasons yet, go check them out! 💭 Today's Tarot Pull: From The Herbcrafter’s Tarot, I pulled Two of Earth - Witch Hazel Witch Hazel blooms in late winter, bridging the threshold between endings and beginnings. This card calls us to hold the tension of opposites: stillness and motion, grief and joy, solitude and connection. It reminds us, like deer, to find presence on the edge—between safety and risk, quiet and boldness. Reflective prompts on this card: How do you embody gentleness without losing your strength? What edges are you standing on right now? Where can you move through life with more grace, like deer in dusk light? Tarot and Frogs

Welcome to Season 12 of Every Day Tarot! This season, we’re exploring the sacred bond between the tarot and our animal allies. In this episode, we talk about frogs—amphibious creatures of duality, sensitivity and strength, stillness and song. Frogs are potent guide through life’s transitions. They are associated with transformation, adaptability, and emotional healing. Frog energy invites us to move through discomfort, trust our evolution, and honor the slow magic of change. Let’s dig into their lore, their tarot appearances, and the lessons they bring when they show up in your life (or your deck!) Frog Symbolism in Myth & Magic Frogs are powerful symbols of transformation, emotional renewal, adaptability, and the cyclical nature of life. Their journey from egg to tadpole to frog mirrors our own phases of becoming—reminding us that growth often happens in stages, not all at once. In folklore and spiritual practices, frogs are rain-callers. Their croaking often precedes rainstorms, tying them to cleansing and renewal. They represent: Transformation & metamorphosis Emotional healing Creative fertility Adaptability Balance Frogs are often associated with rain and ritual cleansing. Their croaking is known to precede rainstorms, tying them to renewal and the sacred power of voice. In witchcraft and magical traditions, frogs are seen as both protectors and omens of luck, often linked with spell-work, transformation, and vibrational sensitivity. Tarot Cards Featuring Frog Energy: While frogs don’t appear in many traditional tarot decks, their essence is deeply aligned with the Wheel of Fortune. This card reflects the frog’s journey: from fluid beginnings to uncertain leaps forward. Life spins us through cycles: ups and downs, growth and rest. Frog energy helps us navigate those transitions with grace and resilience. If you haven't listened to my other seasons yet, go check them out! Eight of Pentacles

Welcome to season 7 of this podcast, where I am talking all about the Suit of Pentacles. I’ll be going through each card in the suit, one per episode. What we explore in this episode: What the Eight of Pentacles teaches about dedication, mastery, and meaningful work Symbolism across different decks: books, tools, craftsmanship, and sacred repetition How to know when your work is aligned with your purpose and when it’s time to pivot The difference between persistence toward meaningful goals vs. staying stuck in perfectionism Why mastery is a process, not an endpoint Pictures from the decks I talked about today referenced from left to right: The Goddess of Love Tarot Deck: A Book and Deck for Embodying The Erotic Divine Feminine by Gabriela Herstik and illustrated by Julia Popescu The Sasuraibito Tarot deck by Stasia Burrington The Desert Illuminations Tarot by Lindsay D. Williams In this episode, we explore the Eight of Pentacles—a card that celebrates devotion, craftsmanship, and the sacred act of steady progress. This is the card of meaningful repetition: the patient, focused work that gradually shapes both the craft and the crafter. The Eight of Pentacles reminds us that mastery isn’t just about talent, it's about devotion, resilience, and choosing to show up even when it’s hard. It also asks an important question: Are we honing a craft that aligns with our spirit, or are we simply grinding out of habit or fear? Sometimes, the work itself is fulfilling... and sometimes, it's a signal that it's time to pivot toward what truly calls us. If you haven't listened to my other seasons yet, go check them out! Season 1- Tarot basics Seasons 2&3- Major Arcana and 4 suits Season 4- Tarot in Pop Culture Season 5- Tarot Spreads Season 6- Suit of Wands Today's Tarot Pull: From The Citadel: A Fantasy Oracle by Fen Inkwright, I pulled The Scholar (reversed)—a card about investigation, learning, and perseverance. In reverse, The Scholar signals that it may be time to step back and reassess. Not all effort yields reward, and sometimes the most courageous thing we can do is redirect our energy when the path we've been working on no longer feels right. The reversal invites you to recognize when the pursuit of mastery has become rote, exhausting, or disconnected from your greater purpose. It’s okay to change direction. It's okay to dream again. Reflective prompts on this card: Where are you pouring your energy without feeling a meaningful return? What project, goal, or habit needs to be reassessed instead of pushed through? What dream or pursuit would light you up if you gave yourself permission to start over?
